BP Fails Again to Stop the Oil Spill

British Petroleum’s (BP) attempt to stop the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has failed. BP’s “top kill” plan was to plug the flow of crude oil by pumping mud and concrete into the broken pipe more than 1500 metres beneath the water’s surface. Although they were able to slow the flow of oil into the sea, the company has restored to another plan where they will perform a risky undersea operation using a robot to saw through a pipe leading out of the crippled well and cap it with a funnel-like device, capturing the oil. This will be their seventh attempt. The Louisiana coastline was hit the hardest by the spill and it has hurt the fishing business. This is the worst oil spill in US history, having dumped between 68-150 million litres into the Gulf.
