Many Killed by Ethnic Violence in Kyrgyzstan

The rivalry between the Uzbek and Kyrgyz in Kyrgyzstan has led to more than 75 000 Uzbeks to flee from Kyrgyzstan. It is the worst ethnic violence in decades and has killed approximately 117 people and wounded over 1200 people. Osh, the second largest city in Kyrgyzstan and Jalal-Abad, another city 45 miles from Osh was set on fire. Rioters seized an armored vehicle and automatic weapons at a local military unit and attacked police stations around the region. Maksat Zheinbekov, the mayor of Jalal-Abad, believes that the feud was fueled by supporters of ousted President Kurmanbek Bakiyev who attacked both Uzbeks and Kyrgyz, the ethnic majority, to incite broader ethnic violence.

High Meat Diet Triggers Earlier Periods

A study done in the UK compared diets of more than 3000 twelve-year-old girls and found that high meat consumption at age three (over eight portions a week) and age seven (12 portions a week) was strongly linked to early periods. It was proposed that meat rich diets may prepare the body for pregnancy since it is a good source of zinc and iron, requirements that are high during pregnancy, thus triggering earlier puberty.

U.S Finds Good News For Afghanistan

United States geologists discovered a vast mineral wealth in Afghanistan worth $1 trillion. Much of the mineral resources were known by Afghan scientists but information was hidden due to conflict in the country. The minerals include iron, copper, cobalt, gold and lithium, essential for producing batteries used in everyday items such as cell phones and laptops. Although it is a great opportunity for the Afghan people to use to rebuild their war torn country, it requires heavy investment and foreign specialists.
