Kelsey Rideout’s “Israel Apartheid Week at U of G” reads more like an advertisement for an event than an article. While she does make important comments about how imposing blame for the conflict is a controversial task and that individuals hold conflicting opinions, she does not express that diversity of opinion in her article. Instead of taking the time to explore the different opinions held by member of our campus community, she only interviewed those who are part of the IAW initiative. Several events were held last week to present an alternative viewpoint to IAW including a very successful tabling campaign called Size Doesn’t Matter, which showcased the small country of Israel’s global achievements, as well as a lecture from world renowned academic Dr. Barry Rubin and Palestinian journalist Khaled Abu Toameh. Her lack of coverage of these events in addition to the ones presented by IAW demonstrates unprofessional and biased journalism. In the future, I hope Rideout and The Ontarion will make greater efforts to educate students about campus issues by representing a variety of viewpoints and opinions.

This is certainly an interesting topic, but my thought while reading this was "yeah, I knew all this already". I think many of us have already heard of the perils of Disney, so to have it presented as news seems a little silly.

I applaud your recognition that ethical concerns need to be considered here, but I can't help but be dissappointed by your conclusion. Just because an animal is abundant in the wild doesn't make it any more right (for me at least) to kill it for such a superficial purpose. It's it's truly used for warmth or for food as well, fine. But to kill an animal just for vanity, especially when as you say fake fur is improving in quality? I think that's just sad.

My advice to the student organizers: Petition your Students' Union to withhold payment of CFS fees for the year. Also, I hope you guys have good legal representation.

Clearly CFS Ontario is not acting in good faith here. Out west we had similar problems when student bodies decided they'd had enough of CFS's shady tactics. Personally I think that while CFS does do some useful lobbying work on behalf of students, they have grown far beyond their original mandate and are a bloated and corrupt organization, and have abandoned the democratic principles upon which they were founded. If the CFS executive and management had any honour they would step up and accept the wishes of students. CFS's actions have become a liability and an insult to students throughout Canada.

Considering he's thinking of marrying this girl, it was definitely important that he knows! Maybe telling him right in the middle of the trip would be awkward, but in fairness to him, it should be done. He is seriously committed to her and he should know that she obviously isn't.

An important thing to mention is that the internet it your best friend when you're shopping for a laptop. It can provide you with a more concentrated scope if you do a search on google for say, "Best laptop under $500". While they may not yield immediate purchasable results (most websites are American), they will provide you with a good list of laptop of which you can then further filter based on your wants and needs.

Of course being a staff at the IT help Desk, I'd be more than happy to talk to you about purchasing a laptop. Just know that when you get a computer student started on computers, expect extreme levels of enthusiasm.

I can't really say whether or not you should have told him. I'm just going to say that I'm glad I wasn't in your position. I would feel horrible knowing something like that. I don't think there's really any excuse for cheating and although it's something you never want to hear, I don't necessarily think it's something you never want to know. I think I would want to know. Ignorance may be bliss for him, but that doesn't mean he would choose bliss. You would also have to consider the effect it could have on your friendship with your friend. Cheater girl could get pissed at her for telling you and then her get pissed at you for telling him and it could all get out of hand. Who knows. But yeah, I wouldn't be very comfortable spending the week/ end or whatever with these people knowing this dirty secret.

Thanks for the plug for Con-G, however Con-G is NOT run by FLASH, nor has any associations with it other than the fact some of our staff are member or past members of the club.

If you could correct this mistake, that would be fantastic.

Also Con-G's second year was this past weekend, and we have 530 attendees at the Best Western Royal Brock hotel.

Cheers!

PS Gryphcon is also not run by FLASH, but rather the games club that shares their office.

Dear Deal or no Deal,
It takes balls to admit you are superficial. We all are, but not everyone can admit it. Kudos. In regards to your question, there are many factors to take into account when deciding if this woman should stay or go, almost so many things i barely want to answer, and i should think you would get bored reading.
I agree that this girl not taking the food to go is quite disrespectful considering you bought, however there are plenty of reasons she did not eat it in the first place. She could not have liked the food at all, and did not want to eat it latter, or she could have been like you said nervous, and just really liked you. Thinking is one thing us girls do a lot of. She could have been contemplating what to say, thinking about her next move, deciding weather she liked you enough to keep going, LOL hell she could have been thinking about her homework sitting on her desk at home that needs to be done. Also, if I was in her position and you asked if I was hungry, I would take that as a cue that you were and automatically say yes. I wouldn't want you to starve because i had eaten before the date and didn't tell you (I always do). Keep in mind that some girls don't like eating in front of their dates, and think that guys will not like them if they are seen slamming home a burger and fries. It may all have been for you in the first place.
The question of weather or not you should have assumed she was staying the night when you invited her in is far more simple. It is your place, even if you would feel bad kicking her out at three in the morning, it is still your decision weather she stays or goes. You could have even offered to pay for a cab to send her back and would still have been gentlemanly. You should not have felt pressured by her question... because that is exactly what it was. I did not get the impression that she was demanding or assumed she was staying over from the quote in your article, it is you who assumed to much, and assuming makes an ass out of you and me. It was most likely a big decision for her to even ask if she could stay, but you could have been tactful and explained to her how much you do like her but that you were just not comfortable having her over so soon. One of the easiest things for you to learn is that saying what you are thinking and explaining how you feel will go a long way to avoid misinterpretation and awkward moments. You need to start thinking about the other person in the situation and where they are coming from. You say you judge your dates quite often on little things, but if the tables were turned i don't think you would find their analysis of you fair, and I'm sure you would feel the need to explain yourself to them. Give them that opportunity.
This issue was both her and your fault, so you should not judge her for that. You both seem to like each other, and if you talk about what happened I'm sure you can both have a laugh and move on. I say she stays for the moment.
Yours Truly
